The Onshore Wind Engineering Megawatt Constrained (MWC) Segment Power Performance team is responsible for defining power performance requirements of wind turbines, for developing and executing simulations as input to commercial power curves, for ensuring that the design meets requirements, and for supporting our customers in the execution of contractual power performance tests.
As the Power Performance Senior Engineer, you will:
Develop power performance predictive capabilities by enhancing understanding of wind conditions and turbine design & operation, by improving simulation capabilities, and by leveraging data from power curve test campaigns
Develop and enhance power performance simulation capability relative to real wind and ambient conditions
Develop and enhance performance simulation capability to capture specific turbine design elements (blade dynamics, controls methodologies, component efficiencies, etc.)
Address variability of atmospheric conditions, and the product in predictive capability and in optimizing performance
Execute power performance simulations to support new products and installed base wind turbines
Establish / communicate turbine design requirements to optimize power performance
Diagnose performance data from operating wind turbines
Lead field test campaigns to support turbine and/or farm-level performance investigations
Lead multi-generational technology plans
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience with demonstrated leadership of design, projects and/or research
Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in Engineering from an accredited university or college
Wind turbine simulation experience, including wind modeling and turbine simulation
Experience with wind turbine simulation tools and environments (FLEX5, Bladed, MATLAB, Simpack, Adams, etc.)
Experience with analysis, design, database and/or visualization tools (MATLAB, Simulink, ENOVIA, Tableau, etc.)
System engineering experience (reqts, trade-offs, optimization)
Fluid mechanics (e.g. turbulence) and/or atmospheric sciences experience
Experience with capturing and/or analyzing wind turbine power performance test data
Wind turbine system design experience
Wind turbine controls experience
System engineering mindset
Demonstrated experience in engineering simulation tool use and application
Demonstrated experience in leveraging field / test data in comparison to prediction
Demonstrated ability to work in a global, matrix organizational environment
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong technical aptitude / drive to improve capabilities and designs
