Position Summary

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Bowdoin College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Francophone Studies to begin July 1, 2018 with the possible extension of a second year. The Department seeks a candidate specializing in literature of the 19th or 20th/21st centuries of the French-speaking world, including but not exclusive to France. Interest in North-African cultural production and/or an interest in film and/or media studies is desirable. Applicants should demonstrate a promise of successful scholarly engagement and dedication to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. The teaching expectation is four courses per year ranging from language courses to upper-level seminars in the field of specialty. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in French. Ph.D. must be in hand upon beginning appointment.
