General Summary:This position will provide the incumbent with an opportunity to manage the department responsible for planning and implementation Unum Group’s Business Resiliency Program which consists of both Business Continuity and Business Technology Resiliency.The AVP will provide leadership in coordinating, assessing, developing and communicating business and technology recovery requirements associated with the enterprise’s lines of business to protect the company in the event that the facilities, Data Center or technology resources are unavailable due to an unforeseen disruption. Provide very complex project leadership between the technology groups and other business units, emphasizing regular direct communication with application support areas and the Global Infrastructure Group.This position will provide the AVP with an opportunity to manage the team responsible for planning and implementation of the Business Continuity plans that are responsible for providing manual / off-line procedures development to mitigate any risk associated with complete or partial failure of facilities, technology systems, or applications related to an unforeseen disruption. Additionally, this business will provide leadership in coordinating, assessing, developing & communicating recovery environment requirements and contingency plans associated with the company’s Data Centers current, in plan, and new activities, to appropriate technology groups, resulting in recommendations to enable timely, effective decisions regarding hardware / software recovery planning.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops business continuity and disaster recovery policies and procedures that allow the Global Business Resiliency Program to meet “best practices” within the industry, and the expectations of regulators in addition to the Unum Board of Directors, Audit Committee, CEO and customers/business partners.

  • Oversees and facilitates the execution of the Business Resiliency Program for UnumGroup to create a consistent incident response process across the entire company.

  • Partners with Senior Leaders within Global Services as well as senior leadership across Unum Group lines of business to ensure continuity and recovery plans are in place.

  • Primary responsibility for developing and maintaining the GS Recovery Plan and the Global Incident Management Response Plan.

  • Validates constant sustainability between our production data center infrastructure and the disaster recovery data center.

  • Coordinates with Unum Group application teams to ensure systems software, hardware, and network and firewall components are consistent between our environments, including proper versioning and configuration controls are implemented to ensure a smooth transition to our co-location in the event of a significant business interruption or disaster.

  • Validates existing gaps and assist with coordinating efforts in prioritizing, planning and implementing changes in order to recover the infrastructure at disaster recovery data center.

  • Coordinates responses by Field Offices, RFP Units, and other corporate areas for customers and regulators concerning continuity and recovery capabilities and overall Business Resiliency Program.

  • Serves as the Business Resiliency risk leader for the Global Services Risk Committee to assist in the identification, analysis, measurement, and mitigation of Unum corporate risk.

  • Provides direction and training for designated support staff in the building, maintenance and testing of their business continuity and business technology plans.

  • Facilitates all On-site Incident Management Team exercises and training to ensure teams are prepared in the event of an incident. Provides guidance and assistance during actual incidents.

  • Schedules and manages all Business Resiliency testing and tabletop exercise for both IT and business recovery plans.

  • Oversees Unum’s Business Resiliency relationship with the external ASP service provider, including database maintenance, implementation of new releases, and requests for product enhancements.

  • Supervises Business Resiliency staff in maintaining LDRPS and responding to the 400 plus plan administrators questions and issues.

  • Maintains effective partnerships and relationships with all functional areas including management throughout the organization, including company subsidiaries.

  • Develops the Business Resiliency Program’s annual budget and manages expenses to the budget.

  • Plays a key role with assisting in the coordination of recovery activities in the event of a disaster.

  • May perform other duties as requested.
